Iron Mike defended his World Title of W5 in Moscow.
Iron Mike gave a fight in Moscow, on 5th November, in the organization Fight Nights. His opponent was the Russian Champion Batu Hasikov and they played for the defense of the World Title of W5.
The fight took place at Dynamo Stadium at Krilatskoye and it was sold out days before. The two fighters played in front of an enthusiastic audience which went to stadium early. Many Greeks went to see and support our Champion and throughout Mike's appearance they cheered his name is rhythm. The TV channel Russia 2 broadcasted the fight LIVE.
During the 1st round, Iron Mike was hit by the knee of his opponent to his face but he continued to fight for about 30'' when he realized that something was wrong and asked from the doctor of the fight to check his jaw.
The hit resulted in a fracture in Mike's jaw and the doctor stopped the fight which ended in favor of the Russian Champion Batu Hasikov.
Iron Mike's doctors in Greece recommended him to follow a conservative approach by a non-surgical procedure, which will ensure the best recovery and the return to his athletic obligations within 40 days.
With Iron Mike Zambidis travelled his team, his coach Mpampis Papadopoulos, his manager Tonia Fouseki and Sotiris Tsafoulias.
Iron Mike stated about this fight: « For the first time in my 20 year-old career and after 168 fights, I get injured this way. Also, it is the first time, I lose one out of my four World Titles while I was defending it.I will be patient for 2 months, as doctors recommended me and I will be ready to bring the World Title of W5 again back to Greece! I can't wait to stand against the Russian Champion Batu Hasikov in order to defend something that belongs to us and I hope this time it happens in our homeland! »
